About

Dead Birds Adore Us is a progressive hard rock band from Indianapolis, IN.

The sound incorporates a range of influences, including Math Metal, Doom Metal, Psychedelic Rock, Funk, and 90’s Alternative Grunge. Daniel Crawford, Noah Miles, Ryan Sellick, and Jerin Kelly started the band in late 2010 as an instrumental group with a bizarre live visual element.

The band quickly gained underground popularity, frequently referred to as a “Musician’s Band” (eluding to the complexity of the arrangements and the intricacies of tone and dynamic). The songs contain odd time signatures, carefully crafted tones, and deliberate experimental song structures which range from 3 to 9 minutes. Some of the band’s musical influences include Tool, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Opeth, Neurosis, and Frank Zappa.

The aesthetic brand of Dead Birds Adore us is derived directly from the retro psychedelic visuals that Jerin produces. He gathers royalty-free video clips and constructs a live narrative using MIDI triggers, computer software and video projections. All of the clips used are PG-13, and through the art of timing and juxtaposition, he helps the band create a unique atmosphere where cathartic and thought-provoking responses were not uncommon.

In June 2013, the band added longtime friend Wes Sims to join on guitar and lead vocals. Wes Sims played in the band Zombieater with Noah and Dan between 2007-2009. The chemistry carried over to Dead Birds Adore Us beautifully, contributing to a more accessible sound that is nostalgic and reminiscent of 90’s Alternative Grunge Rock. Within months, Wes wrote his contributions to every Dead Birds Adore Us song, gearing the band up for recording a full-length debut album.

In January 2014 Dead Birds Adore Us recorded and mixed the Self-Titled debut album in just 6 days, with the help of Ryan Koch from Arkbarn Studio. Ten songs were live-recorded with the whole band to keep the live energy and dynamic in the sound. After the tracks were finalized by Jeremy Wood, the band ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, funding the production and digital distribution of the album.

The album was officially released on August 23rd, 2014, and has been acclaimed as one of the best local Indianapolis new releases of 2014. The band is currently writing new material and expanding their reach by optimizing their official website (deadbirdsadoreus.com) and using digital marketing strategies. The band plans on scheduling a regional tour in 2015.
